Prima atestare documentara a asezarii dateaza din anul 1267. In anul 1283 este pomenit numele de villa Medgyes iar in 1308 este amintit numele Terra Medies. In sec XIV devine unul dintre cele mai importante cetati din Transilvania.Aceste sapte cetati dau numele german al regiunii Siebenbuergen (Sibiu, Brasov, Medias,Sighisoara, Sebes, Rupea, Bistrita). In jurul anului 1500 asezarea se fortifica cu ajutorul satelor vecine. In 1564 are loc un incendiu devastator.

Die erste urkundliche Bezeugung stammt aus dem Jahr 1267. 1283 der Ort wird unter der Name Villa Medgyes und dann 1308 unter der Name Terra Medies erwaehnt.
Im XIV Jahrhundert wird Mediesch einen groessen Handelscentrum in diese Region.
Neben Kronstadt,Hermannstadt, Muehlbach, Schaessburg ,Reps und Bistriz, gibt Mediesch dieser Region die Name Siebenburgen.
Rund um Jahr 1500 die Burg wird befestigt mit det Mithilfe von der Nachbardoerfer,
1564 ein Feuerbrand zerstoert ein groesse Teil der Stadt.

The first certification of the place originate in 1267. In 1283 it is mentioned the name Villa Medgyes and then in 1308 for the first time the name Terra Medies.
In XIV century Medies become an important trade center in the region.
In about the year 1500 the citadel fortifies to face the Ottomen invasion. The neighbour villages help this fortification.
in the year 1564 occurs the great fire which distroys a large part of the city.
